  • CCC has opened a new welding technology lab in Grand Island to boost local industry and offer advanced training for aspiring welders; the facility will soon host sessions on state-of-the-art welding techniques.  KSNB
  • A New York data mining company will open a data center in Grand Island + the local utilities director says the deal could help lower electricity costs for all customers.  KSNB
  • KGIN-TV is off the air on Dish Network and DirecTV in Grand Island as engineers work to restore the broadcast — viewers are advised to try streaming via alternative apps.  KSNB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Grand Island Senior High, 16 student athletes made their college commitments official on Thursday as part of the spring signing day, marking a key milestone in the school's athletic program.  KSNB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Crane Trust is offering guided riverfront blind tours in March and April at the river with early morning and early evening sessions so visitors can see roosting sandhill cranes safely; photography is allowed (flash must be off).  KSNB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Pillen signed LB653 into law today to let school districts tackle disruptive behavior in classrooms, allowing the suspension of Pre-K through 2nd grade students who act violently while ensuring that students can present their side to school administration.  Central Nebraska Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • CHI Health St. Francis will host a free nine-week cancer rehabilitation program starting Monday, March 16 in Conference Room 6AB at the hospital. The program offers guidance on nutrition, exercise, and healing and is open to survivors (treatment not required) with registration due by Friday, March 13.  Central Nebraska Today
  • Two Rivers Public Health reported the fifth flu death during the 2025–2026 respiratory season; officials said no pediatric flu fatalities occurred and they are monitoring influenza and RSV in the district—recording a total of 5 flu and 6 COVID deaths as of March 3.  Central Nebraska Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • An Omaha crew installed the LOVB Nebraska volleyball court at Heartland Events Center on Thursday using TeraFlex from Baxter Arena. The temporary setup now includes a video board and will host the team’s match tomorrow at 7 p.m.  KSNB
