- ➤ Visit Nebraska announced the 2026 Passport program that offers 70 stops from May 1 to September 30, including a local stop near Grand Island. - ➤ On March 1, a fire caused by a faulty furnace extensively damaged Harvest Time Church (1125 Beal St) as 17 firefighters worked from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and reported heavy smoke and significant first-floor damage. Central Nebraska Today
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Nebraska jumped on Tuesday with Lincoln stations pricing regular gas at $2.99 (AAA data show the state average rose from $2.72 to $2.87), and experts expect further increases as supply costs escalate. KSNB

- ➤ A Wasmer Elementary fourth-grader started a Kindness Club with help from her teacher (Ms. Z) to meet weekly during lunch and create thank-you letters and inspirational posters for school staff. She hopes her club will spread kindness throughout the school. KSNB
- ➤ Premier Pyrotechnics is hosting a Shooter’s School on Saturday, March 14 at Riverside Golf Club. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and training starts at 10 a.m.; participants pay $60, which covers lunch and dinner (bring safety gear) as fireworks may be set off during live exercises. - ➤ Food truck vendors in Grand Island attended a Spanish language fire safety training at the Hall County Emergency Management Office where they watched a safety video and practiced using fire extinguishers with guidance from the Grand Island Fire Department. The session gave them certification and improved understanding of city regulations. KSNB
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island announced hiring of Taytom Timbers as its new head golf professional; he will manage daily operations (including tournament coordination and youth instruction) as the course prepares for the 2026 season. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ Grand Island Central Catholic returned to the state tournament for the first time in four years after beating Elkhorn Mount Michael Benedictine 47-42 on Monday night. Coach Tino Martinez and star Braylon Wolfe, who scored 22 points, now aim for a state title in Lincoln. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ League One Volleyball will host Salt Lake vs Nebraska at the Heartland Events Center on Saturday, March 7 starting at 7 p.m. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on local streaming apps, and tickets are still available with limited seating. KSNB
