CULTURE NEWS

  • Chris Beaty will talk about his memoir that revisits his GISH years with humor and heart at Rooted Books today. He describes the book as a series of love letters to Grand Island and Nebraska.  The Grand Island Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Grand Island Senior High School welcomed 83 juniors into the National Honor Society over the weekend. The largest inductee class in recent years pledged to uphold leadership, character & service in both school and community.  Central Nebraska Today
  • Grand Island Lutheran hosted its first career fair on Thursday where job seekers explored opportunities and local businesses offered career guidance. Photos from the event highlight the new effort to connect the community with local employment resources.  The Grand Island Independent
  • Central Community College-Grand Island will hold a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 4 to mark the opening of its new welding technology building; Nebraska Gov.   • Ten UNK students will represent the university in the 2026 Nebraska Intercollegiate Band at 11:30 a.m. March 7 in Kimball Recital Hall on the UNL campus as part of the annual Nebraska State Bandmasters Association convention — the free concert offers them valuable performance experience.  Central Nebraska Today

  • Nebraska lawmakers reversed a ban on suspending K-2 students, allowing local schools to resume suspensions three years after the 2023 approval.  The Grand Island Independent

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Grand Island Rodeo took place Friday and continues today at the Heartland Events Center with performances starting at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The event marks Sutton Rodeo’s 100-year anniversary and will feature trick riding, bull riding and specialty acts by the Kiesners.  Nebraska TV
  • Grand Island Central Catholic broke a tight game with a decisive 14-3 run in the third and fourth quarters—winning 51-38 over Adams Central in the Class C-1, Subdistrict 9 final on Thursday night.  Central Nebraska Today
