  • Matt Talbot is seeking more volunteers as more neighbors turn to the group for help. The organization relies on volunteers to provide warm meals and serve visitors with dignity and compassion.  KSNB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Brandon Jewell from Hastings won $5,000 in the Big Idea contest and will launch his Battle Bus Mobile Arcade before fall 2026 to offer more family entertainment in the area (he grew up in Grand Island).  KSNB

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sutton Rodeo Company is celebrating its 100th year by bringing its rodeo to Grand Island this weekend at the Heartland Events Center. It returns for the eighth consecutive year with acts that recently performed in Las Vegas.  KSNB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Travelers passing through Central Nebraska Regional Airport can enjoy a free Flybrary program launched by the airport and the Grand Island Public Library, which offers a take-a-book, leave-a-book system and details on library services and digital resources available today.  Nebraska TV
  • Nebraska Extension is launching its Special Agronomy Project to give 4-H kids a chance to explore popcorn farming with two varieties (Nebraska Red and Robust 977) as sign-ups close on March 14.  Nebraska TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spanish-speaking food truck operators will attend a public meeting Monday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Grand Island/Hall County Emergency Management Office (1210 North Road) to review proposed regulations and receive hands-on fire safety training from the fire department and UNL Extension.  Nebraska TV
  • Congressman Adrian Smith hosted David Briggs, CEO of Sustainable Beef, as his guest at the 2026 State of the Union address today. Briggs noted that his North Platte facility, which employs 1,000 workers and processes 1,500 cattle daily, reflects strong local economic growth and policy support from the Workforce Act.  KSNB
  • Nebraska’s new SNAP rules, including funding cuts and a ban on junk food, are restricting budgets for over 150,000 SNAP users like Amanda Gerhson. Gov. Pillen said the changes are meant to promote healthier choices, though rising grocery prices mean many families are now paying more out of pocket.  KSNB

  • Tuesday night, Adams Central rallied to beat Malcolm 47-44 to advance to the subdistrict final against top-seeded GICC — GICC also defeated Broken Bow 51-37 to set the final matchup. Key players like Riley Propp and Connor Haney led their teams with strong play.  Central Nebraska Today
