ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Wednesday, agriculture leaders in Hastings met with U.S. Sen. Pete Ricketts and Rep. Adrian Smith to discuss making E15 fuel available year-round. They said the shift could give corn growers a market edge amid ongoing economic challenges as lawmakers review the measure.  KSNB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Grand Island seniors from the high school started the Fem Power club at Lincoln Elementary School, offering weekly sessions in November and December to help young girls build confidence and learn about healthy relationships; they will expand the program to additional district schools next semester.  Central Nebraska Today
  • Nebraska Extension Educator Heidi Darby announced a weather workshop for homeschool students on March 17 in Grand Island — the class will offer morning and afternoon sessions for ages 5 to 14 and feature a guest tornado chaser demonstrating his gadgets.  Nebraska TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Buffalo County Fire Departments say conditions remain unsafe for outdoor burning today despite recent moisture — no burn permits will be issued until fire chiefs determine it is safe.  Central Nebraska Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • Teams from across the state have come to Grand Island for the 2026 State Cheer and Dance Competition today at Heartland Event Center. Organizers say the event will showcase skill and team spirit for local fans.  KSNB
  • Coach Fred Hoiberg said a fan rushed the postgame handshake line with a cell phone after Nebraska’s loss to Iowa on Feb. 17. He described the moment as heated (he relies on a pacemaker) and noted celebrations should remain safe as Nebraska prepares to face Penn State at 1 p.m. CT today.  KSNB
  • Tomorrow at 3 p.m., the NSAA State Wrestling Championships will feature title matches across several weight classes, including Grand Island's Riley Pedersen (106lb Class A) facing Terrence Crawford.  Central Nebraska Today
