EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Grand Island Public Schools and local police practiced a reunification drill that locked Seedling Mile Elementary and bused students to Grand Island Senior High. The exercise let school staff+parents learn safe procedures while officials gathered feedback to improve future emergency responses. KSNB
- ➤ Grand Island Senior High students took part in mock interviews and career sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday at College Park and Central Community College as part of Junior Internship Days. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nebraska Game and Parks is beginning spring rainbow trout stockings by releasing 12-inch trout in ponds and lakes statewide to boost fishing opportunities. The program starts the week of Feb. 15 and invites anglers to use the Going Fishing Guide (details may vary) for future stocking plans. Nebraska TV
- ➤ The Crane Trust Nature and Visitors Center is hosting events to view sandhill cranes as they pass through the area — offering riverfront blind tours in the morning and evening, day driving tours at 10 a.m., and a footbridge tour at 6:00 p.m. for visitors to experience the migration up close. - ➤ NWS Hastings announced free SKYWARN storm spotter training classes for spring 2026, open to residents 10 and older to learn severe weather reporting. The first session starts on March 4 in Hamilton County (Aurora Fire Station) with more sessions planned statewide, including one in Grand Island on March 25. Central Nebraska Today
