COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Red Cross will host a Chili Cook-Off in Grand Island that invites local cooks to compete and support its programs. The community event will bring residents together on an upcoming day for friendly competition * all in support of the Red Cross.  KSNB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • DG Fuels held a town hall at the Phelps County Ag Center on Jan. 14 and outlined plans to build a synthetic aviation fuel plant that will process corn stover to create hundreds of local jobs and boost revenue for area farmers.  Central Nebraska Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nebraska Extension will host two-day Nebraska Master Irrigator Shop Talk discussions at Grand Island and three other locations to address irrigation and nitrogen challenges. The sessions run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT+ they qualify for select certification credits for Natural Resources District training.  Nebraska TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Light Goose Conservation Order begins Feb. 10 (East Zone through Apr. 15; Rainwater Basin and West Zones through Apr. 5), allowing hunters to take white and blue-phase snow geese and Ross’ geese statewide during set hours under zone-specific rules by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.  Nebraska TV
  • The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission announced that the Light Goose Conservation Order will start Feb. 10, covering different zones with varying end dates (East, Feb. 10-April 15; Rainwater Basin and West, Feb. 10-April 5). Hunters can use unplugged shotguns and electronic calls statewide with no bag limits.  Central Nebraska Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Grand Island Public Works Department announced that the Transfer Station at 5050 West Old Potash Highway will close Feb. 13-14 for concrete replacement work inside the building.  Nebraska TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Murray Natural Integrated Health is offering free heart screenings in February (in honor of American Heart Month) and inviting Grand Island residents to schedule a check-up.  KSNB

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kansas City Royals games will air free on Gray Media-owned channels in Nebraska — the home opener is set for Monday, Mar. 30 against the Minnesota Twins while 10 season games are planned with three confirmed and seven to be announced.  KSNB
