- ➤ State Sen. Dave Murman has introduced a bill that will require Nebraska K-12 schools to teach about the dangers of communism starting next school year (including a test on civics for eighth graders and high school graduates). Educators oppose the proposal, saying it limits local boards’ control over social studies standards. KSNB

- ➤ On Saturday, Jan. 17, Grand Island wrestlers competed against Kearney in the Heartland Athletic Conference tournament held in Lincoln (236.5 to 233), with a 3.5-point lead securing the win. Central Nebraska Today
- ➤ Omaha Northwest came from behind to edge Grand Island 34-30 on Saturday afternoon, rallying from a 16-point deficit with a strong second-half surge and a late 9-0 run to secure its first eight-win season since 2016. Central Nebraska Today
