ECONOMY NEWS

  • Grand Island’s Central Nebraska Regional Airport set annual and monthly records in 2025 (its best performance yet) as it surpassed previous travel numbers and capped a record year.  The Grand Island Independent

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CHI Health St. Francis will host a community education session on healthy living at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at Conference Room 2/3 at the hospital on 2620 W. Faidley.  The Grand Island Independent

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Speaker John Arch introduced a bill to form a Nebraska-Ireland trade commission that aims to boost business, research and cultural ties. The commission will include state and university representatives, meet quarterly, and a public hearing is scheduled for future input.  KSNB
  • Grand Island Mayor Roger Steele proposed a bookmobile at the State of the City address on Jan. 12 to bring library services closer to children and families facing transportation challenges, with costs estimated between $200,000 and $300,000.  Central Nebraska Today
  • The Grand Island Fire Department completed HazMat training with the Nebraska Civil Support Team today to practice chemical identification, scene safety, and decontamination procedures. The biannual session helps ensure firefighters are ready for hazardous material incidents (improving regional response coordination).  Nebraska TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nebraska DHHS extended the public comment period for behavioral health service definitions—including the provider manual for mental health and substance use disorders—until Jan. 31.
