  • The Tattered Book (Central Nebraska’s largest used bookstore) at 110 W. Third St. is closing on July 1 as the Graves family steps away from the business after 25 years in trade. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nebraska Extension educator Steve Melvin announced upcoming education classes for farmers and Agri professionals in January and February; options include pesticide certification training across the state and a soybean production clinic in Central City on Feb. 3 (covering agronomics, drones, and farm bill updates).  Nebraska TV
  • On Dec. 5, UNL Board of Regents cut the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department (aiming to save $1.85M), ending local training for meteorologists and geologists vital for monitoring severe weather and supporting agriculture.   • Nebraska State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg introduced Legislation Bill 938 to create First-Time Homebuyer Savings Accounts that offer tax deductions and tax-free interest for qualified expenses — the bill sets annual contribution limits to help ease rising home prices for Nebraskans.  Central Nebraska Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • CHI Health St. Francis will close its skilled nursing facility on March 10 in Grand Island to reflect national shifts in care delivery - president Steve Schieber said the move aims to support a smooth transition for patients, families, and staff.  Nebraska TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • After coming back from a 16-point deficit for an 83-77 win over Indiana last Saturday, Nebraska’s men’s basketball team is now ranked No. 8 in the AP Top 25 and will host Oregon today at Pinnacle Bank Arena at 8 p.m.  KSNB
  • Nebraska women’s basketball jumped one spot to No. 24 in the AP Top 25 poll released Monday — the Huskers lost 83-61 to UCLA at Pinnacle Bank Arena and hold a 14-3 record overall. They will face Michigan State Thursday at 6 p.m.  KSNB
