- ➤ Grand Island's arena football team unveiled its new name, the Nebraska Siege, honoring local military and the Sandhill Cranes. Community member Gabe Perez, whose suggestion topped 800 entries, announced that its season opener versus Memphis will be on May 30 with Matthew Caward as general manager. Nebraska TV
- ➤ Grand Island’s new Diamond League baseball team announced its name, Fightin’ Cranes, Thursday morning via email to honor local sandhill cranes and regional wildlife. The team, chosen from more than 50 community entries, will take the field at Ryder Park in 2026. KSNB
