  • Nebraska’s minimum wage reached $15 an hour this week, concluding a voter-approved plan from 2022. Businesses and workers in Grand Island will face changes in wage practices in the coming months — further details are pending.  The Grand Island Independent

  • The city's arena football team will reveal its team name and logo at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Crane Trust — 6611 W Whooping Crane Drive in Wood River — where fans can join an interactive contest to win free tickets before play begins on May 30.  Central Nebraska Today
  • The Grand Island Tennis Center released its 2025 report highlighting strong youth participation in tennis; the center will use the findings to expand its local programs for young players.  KSNB
  • Grand Island’s new arena football team will unveil its name and logo on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Crane Trust in Wood River, ahead of its inaugural Arena League season starting May 30 (with a fan contest offering free ticket prizes for correct guesses).  Nebraska TV
  • The Grand Island Tennis Association presented its annual report at city council on Tuesday showing strong youth participation in racket sports with 42 middle-schoolers and free match play with Kearney and Lexington, but additional courts are needed during inclement weather—plans to boost facility hours are under review.  KSNB
  • Nebraska men’s basketball beat Top-10 Michigan State 58-56 at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Friday, Jan. 2. The win was the biggest regular season game in over 30 years (a milestone that energizes the team) and marked a pivotal moment this season.  KSNB
